What Is Medical Detox?

Medical detoxification is the process of allowing your body to rid itself of addictive substances while under 24/7 medical supervision. At LBCTS Long Beach Care, our board-certified physicians and registered nurses monitor your vital signs, manage withdrawal symptoms with FDA-approved medications, and ensure your safety and comfort throughout the entire process.

Detox at our facility typically lasts 3 to 7 days, depending on the substance, duration of use, and individual health factors. Our clinical team conducts thorough assessments to create a personalized detox protocol for each patient.

Our Detox Process

1

Clinical Assessment

Upon arrival at our Long Beach facility, our medical team conducts a comprehensive evaluation including physical examination, substance use history, mental health screening, and laboratory testing to develop your individualized detox plan.

2

Stabilization & Monitoring

Our physicians administer evidence-based medications to manage withdrawal symptoms while our nursing staff provides continuous vital sign monitoring. Comfort medications are available to address nausea, anxiety, insomnia, and pain.

3

Transition to Treatment

As you stabilize, our clinical team collaborates with you to develop a treatment plan for the next phase of care, whether residential treatment, PHP, or outpatient programming at our facility.

Flexible, Step-Down Treatment

Outpatient programs serve as both a primary treatment option and a step-down from residential care. Patients attend scheduled therapy sessions at our Long Beach facility while living at home or in a sober living environment. This model bridges the gap between intensive inpatient treatment and independent living.

Our outpatient programming incorporates the same evidence-based modalities used in residential care, including CBT, DBT, group therapy, individual counseling, family therapy, and holistic approaches, adjusted to fit flexible scheduling.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

At LBCTS Long Beach Care, we recognize that addiction rarely exists in isolation. Our dual diagnosis program provides integrated treatment for individuals living with both a substance use disorder and a co-occurring mental health condition.

What Is Dual Diagnosis?

Dual diagnosis, also known as co-occurring disorders, refers to the simultaneous presence of a substance use disorder and a mental health disorder. Research consistently shows that treating both conditions at the same time significantly improves outcomes compared to addressing them separately.

Our integrated approach at LBCTS Long Beach Care ensures that our clinical team treats the whole person, not just the addiction. Our psychiatrists, therapists, and counselors collaborate to create a unified treatment plan that addresses the complex relationship between mental health and substance use.

Our Integrated Approach

  • Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation at intake to identify co-occurring conditions
  • Medication management by board-certified psychiatrists
  • Trauma-informed care using EMDR, somatic experiencing, and trauma-focused CBT
  • CBT and DBT to address maladaptive thought patterns and emotional dysregulation
  • Individual therapy focused on the connection between mental health symptoms and substance use
  • Group therapy with peers who share similar challenges
  • Family therapy to rebuild relationships and establish healthy support systems

Co-Occurring Disorders We Treat

Depression

Major depressive disorder and persistent depressive disorder frequently co-occur with substance use. Our clinical team uses evidence-based therapies and, when appropriate, medication to address depressive symptoms alongside addiction treatment.

Anxiety Disorders

Generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, and panic disorder are among the most common co-occurring conditions. We use CBT, DBT, and mindfulness-based interventions to help manage anxiety without reliance on substances.

PTSD & Trauma

Post-traumatic stress disorder and unresolved trauma are significant drivers of substance use. Our trauma-informed care model ensures treatment is delivered in a safe, compassionate environment that supports healing from past experiences.

Bipolar Disorder

The mood fluctuations associated with bipolar disorder can make individuals particularly vulnerable to substance misuse. Our psychiatric team provides medication stabilization and therapeutic support tailored to bipolar patients in recovery.
